Did I Forget Anything?
Oh yeah, Bush sucks. I'm totally appalled by the political situation in our country with Congress MIA on the important stuff. Liberties taken away in the name of security. Judicial system bowing to corporations running rampant. Can you spell FCC?
I'm in the early stages of emphysema. I had to learn how to spell the word. This sucks too. Along with the diabetes. How many balls can I juggle before dropping one? We'll see.
I'm on vacation which means I'm at home. This year I decided to take the last week of December off and the first week of January. I like it better when I'm the only one on vacation.
I cancelled the cruise to Alaska I had set-up for September 2008. With the economy, the sub-prime meltdown, the price of gas ($3.52 today), the fact that after six years I'm still temping at the same place, I felt like it might be better to sock the cash away. My credit cards are paid off. I owe nothing. I wait while being thankful that I've never been able to afford a house despite that mortgage guy telling me I could have a condo with nothing down and $1500 a month last year.
Bill Moyer's Journal is back on PBS. His topics are right-on and so enlightening if you are one of those liberals floating around. In particular, what got to me was his interview with Benjamin Barber (link).
“Capitalism has put democracy in trouble, because capitalism has tried to persuade us that being a private consumer is enough. That a citizen is nothing more than a consumer.”
Needless to say, I don't want to be defined as a consumer. Guess I'll have to quit acting like one. Which makes it even less likely that I'll own an iPhone. Dang, already it's tough not being a consumer.
Happy New Year to y'all. I leave you with 2007's last link: The lyrics to Always look on the bright side of life. Thank you, Monty Python.
