Learning and Happy Birthday Website
Back in the 80's, I picked up a great book, “The Three Boxes of Life” written by Richard Nelson Bolles (who also wrote “What Color Is My Parachute”). You have three boxes—learn, work, play. His notion was that you do all at the same time throughout your life. That way, you don't have a period where you just went to school, or just went to work, or just retired. The idea stuck with me.
I thought it about time to learn something new, something that could benefit my work life, and be fun at the same time. The two things I'd like to learn are JavaScript and Flash in order to make me a more well-rounded Web Designer.
I picked up Shelley Powers' “Learning JavaScript”. She explains things nicely and I think I might actually be able to get this down. I stopped by Shelley's site today when I saw We Can't Afford Another Browser War. Dang, another version of JavaScript may be coming up, but it looks like there are some browser issues.
I ordered my Flash software today along with a book, “Flash CS3: The Missing Manual”, and a video tutorial, Flash CS3 Professional Essential Training. Quite a dollar investment for me, but I look at it as an investment in me.
p.s. My website turns twelve years old this month. What a difference twelve years makes. What started out as infatuation has blossomed into love. I'm just proud to still be at it.
