Crocheting Scarves
I thought I was through with crochet, but apparently it's not through with me. I have my never-ending afghan in progress for my queen-size bed. Crocheting is now mostly an excuse to have something to do with my fingers while I listen to audiobooks.
With fall begins this year's round of crocheting scarves. So much fun.
Scarves are a good way to experiment with stitches. And they only take a day or two or three to finish. Here are three I made over the past few days. The purple metallic thread one has a few beads on the end to make it fun (it's for a friend). The green and orange scarves are for my grandsons, The Gang of Two. Orange is three-year old RayRay's favorite color. Green is BillyBob's favorite. I've never made scarves for children and had to hunt on the web for dimensions. In the end, I just took a wild guess and guessed right.
I like experimenting with different types of yarn when making scarves. I also love working with beads (here's Mama's scarf from last year—mohair and clear metallic beads). Yesterday, I paid a visit to the bead shop and also to the Rug and Yarn Hut in Campbell. I picked up several skeins of Baby Suri Alpaca (with 20% silk). Feels so nice. Karen, the owner, gave the good tip of after you're through crocheting the scarf, wash it in hair conditioner. Makes it soft and cleans it up. Will have to try.
