Drawing the line

Ever since I read Jeffrey's Blahg, my back burner brain has been mulling it over. November 1st will be my eleventh year on the Web and I feel like my website's been on life support this year. I've been in quandary to figure out how to get excited about it again.

I've been searching for inspiration, outside and inside, and keep coming up with zip. It's like everything's been said other than to note the passing of time with current preoccupations or recent photos or what I've been reading or any personal drama I may be experiencing.

In doing my bit of soul searching, I realize that I no longer link to stuff because a million and one others have already linked to it, and if I need the link in the future, all I have to do is to go to one of those bookmarking sites.

Also, with the domination of a newsreader as a source of current information, I rarely get out of my website house. I used to use my Frequently Red page to visit sites frequently that I liked. I didn't appreciate it at the time, but each visit was colored by the author's design. Now within the sterile confines of a newsreader, everything looks the same and I rarely go to the actual website.

And while I'm whining, I'm also tired of so many ads on so many websites. Everybody seems to have jumped on the “make money from my blog” train. Web 2.0 babble overruns everything. Anemic designs do not light my fire.

Also weighing me down…I feel myself ball and chained to Movable Type. The idea of redesigning my Sheep pages seems dang near overwhelming in light of the fact that I have to re-translate the design with MT tags.

I really would like to shake loose this ennui that envelopes me and burst forth with freshness, humor, and a wonderful soul-melting design.

I think I'll crochet on it awhile and see what comes up.
