Cruisin'
Just thought I'd drop a line from the Dawn Princess as we're anchored in Ketchikan, Alaska. Has been just a wonderful experience and so relaxing. Will be posting photos to Flickr after I get back in town on Saturday. I am wondering now after several days on ship when I get home, who will make my bed, who will feed me, who will leave nice little mints on my pillow?
Yes, I'm absolutely spoiled. I think I've managed not to gain too much weight as my pants still fit good, so that's really nice. I've seen bald eagles, beaver dams, trumpter swans, whales, glaciers. I have shot glasses from every stop which will round out my collection.
My best score is the half cup of glacier water I have stored in a plastic bottle. It was my number one thing to acquire on Mendenhall Glacier and believe me, it was hard to get. But the kind person on the helicopter airport gave me a paper cup to sneak on the glacier as no plastic bottles were allowed. Then when I filled up the paper cup, the pilot said I couldn't have an open container on board and I had to drink half of it and wrap my scarf all over the cup. None spilled and my glacier water is safely in my fridge in the room. Whew! That was close. The glacier has given me inspiration for my next afghan (for myself this time). The lovely blues and aquamarines will look fantastic.
The staff on the ship and everyone I've met on my excursions have been warm, friendly people. Also very kind, as I'm not as nimble as I used to be. Betty has been a great ship mate and we've had a blast. I've taken tons of photos and have downloaded them to her laptop. Can't wait to look at them all when I get home on Saturday.
Saturday is my birthday. Yea!!! I begin celebrating tomorrow and the fun will continue when I get back to…what's that word…oh yes, work. But tomorrow night, it's a horse-drawn trolley ride around Victoria and then a night cap at the Empress Hotel. I'm just so happy I can hardly stand it.
