Limbo Lower
Drawing the line

With John and I's separation now going on its fifth month, I feel in limbo emotionally. My life's on hold and I can't stand that as time does not stand still. So, I've been trying to move ahead with my life while we work on never-ending Stuff. A bit of a rollercoaster emotionally, but I hang in there acquiring more independence and gradually disengage those 26-year old ties that bind.

One of those independent things—and I thought July 4th the appropriate time for that—is to get all the bills in my name that I've been paying on for the past few months. Have I mentioned that Verizon sucks? We've had their family plan for three years and my name's on the bill too. But in order to get my own account and keep my cell phone number, I've had to sign up for a year with a $175 cancellation fee and they do a credit check on me. Hello, three years?!? Plus I had to get John's “permission” to do this. Needless to say, that rubs me entirely the wrong way.

Have I mentioned Verizon sucks?

I plan on getting out from under SBC/AT&T's thumb by getting phone service through Earthlink. I see AT&T has now changed their policy to where my info is their info. Well, isn't that special.

I have cable and internet access through Comcast and see they've changed their policy and now will hold on to my internet records for 180 days so they can hand over to the government. Earthlink has a bundled package of phone service and DSL (I know DSL is slower, but I don't think it can be any slower than Comcast's cable—I may be proven wrong but we'll see) which I will be switching over after I submit a request to AT&T to release my phone number to Earthlink so I can keep the same phone number. And since the Comcast bill is in John's name (they refused earlier to add my name), I will have a tube of KY handy when I call them to create an account in my name.

I look forward to getting away from it all this weekend by camping in the backyard.
