I find the ability to touch people all over the world quite exciting. English is common enough that many people around the world are capable of reading my words if they come here. And where the language barrier comes in, still my images can speak, I think. I like the feeling of being in contact with people from all over—there is a sappy feeling of the family of mankind for me associated with this.

11-05-00: It was with much sadness today that I learned Eve aka Ginkgo died last week. Her sensitivity and creativity will be missed on fem•mass. HERE are a few words from her husband, Mark. —lmj

09-23-02: There is a beautiful line of ginkgo trees where I work. Their leaves remind me of Eve. I'm glad her site is still up. —lmj

My advice for you thus far is as follows 1) do not rely on the rhythm method (although it has brought me a great deal of pleasure and a pleasant surprise at the end.  2) always trust your instincts because they are never wrong, 3) remember to open the door before you attempt to walk through it, and 4) if you fart in public, never ask emphatically “Who did that??” because people will know it was you.

When I arrived in NICU, I put on a gown and washed my hands. The nurse said that they planned to give him a bath in a few minutes so she pulled off the wires, wrapped him in a blanket and handed me a screaming baby. He and I looked into each others eyes and he stopped crying. One nurse said, “Well, he sure knows his momma!” She was promptly kicked by the other nurse and I heard the whisper, “She's FCH.”

I think it's really disheartening when these people give up their voice. For those who couldn't go on exposing their lives, I feel especially sad. It's important to keep going, keep writing, keep dealing with it, even when you think you can't. And I know how much the words of others have truly helped me in the past. I only hope that one day I might find the same person somewhere else, speaking out again, with a new site design and a new provider and a little more hope for an end to their troubles.
