SWEET SORROW
12:16P
Today is my last day of work at an online chat company. At the end of the month, I'll be starting a new job at a browser company. And in between, I think I'll just step away from the keyboard.
Life is all about change. The sooner that fact is embraced, the sooner you get to enjoy the moment you're in to the fullest. So in that vein, I'll be hanging out at the Outback around 5 p.m. on the patio with Honey and a few friends. But it's a small Web valley, and I'm reassured because I know I'll cross paths with a lot of them in my next incarnation.
For those who play D&D. Now tell me if this, Summoner Geeks Movie, doesn't sound like every game you've been in. Too funny.

SHE WORKS HARD FOR HER MONEY
11:30A
Girls' Night Out. Women finding out that networking with other women pays off. "According to the National Foundation for Women Business Owners, between 1987 and 1999 the number of woman-owned businesses increased by 103 percent, with sales quadrupling to over $3.5 trillion a year. From 1998 to 1999 alone, the number of woman-owned businesses doubled to more than 9.1 million nationwide. Isabella Capital's Wyant, a 20-year veteran of Procter & Gamble (PG) 's strategic development group, sees this burgeoning market of woman-led companies as a chance to strike gold in unclaimed territory. "There are 900 VC funds in the United States, 895 of which are focusing on guys," she says. "It's an opportunity for me to make money."

The Molson Ads. What? No aboot? See Hairy Legs. Although these ads are amusing, what's not so funny were the 414 layoffs at the brewery in Barrie, Ontario last year.
"It is a tremendously difficult decision given the quality of the employees in Barrie and their union, who have done everything in their power to increase productivity. In the end, the decision was determined by the relative size of the brewery and capital infrastructure," added Dave Perkins,
President, Ontario Region, Molson.
Molson wouldn't let the Barrie employees transfer to the plant in Toronto siting cultural differences, despite Barrie only being 50 or so miles away. The Barrie brewery is scheduled to close next month.

Apple discontinued the 21" Studio Display when they introduced the G4 Cube. The only big monitor you can now get at Apple is the 22" Apple Cinema Display (flat panel-$4K), and that will only work with the newer G4's and the G4 Cube. Fortunately there are still other companies--NEC, Samsung, Sony--that are continuing to sell 21" monitors.

Deconstructing the Web. "The Web is disintegrating into bits. When the dust settles, what's important for a successful long-term strategy is not Web site design but the flexibility of your information architecture."

TEAM BUILDING
3:30P
Yesterday at work, we had an offsite 'team builder'. I love this kinda team building. We went to Roaring Camp in the hills by Felton, and took a train with open cars on an hour-long trip through the Redwoods close to Big Basin and ended up in Santa Cruz at The Boardwalk. We rode rides, played in the sand, ate, and then caught the train back up to Roaring Camp. Such a pleasant way to decompress after a rough day team building at the beach.
