MOUNTAIN TOP

Taking a pause in the day to record my Seattle adventure. Had a wonderful time. Everything was as good if not better than I anticipated (except for the incident at the airport where the security team lost my watch in their system, but they found it and returned it before I flew out).

At the Web Design conference, it felt so good to be amoung 'my people'. In my current position with a local muni, I often feel a bit isolated not having many people to talk Web, so it was nice to be surrounded for several days.

I really enjoyed the individual sessions, learned a lot, got jazzed, and best of all got to put faces on people I've known for quite awhile. There were a few minor conference glitches, but overall I found (for my first conference) it ran fairly smooth.

Miz Liz and I made it to the Space Needle via the Monorail. So unusual to eat at a place where the floor revolves, but what a fantastic view. The food, although pricey, was quite tasty. And I did get to set my very first book free on the Observation Deck, another Web experiment success.

Mountain tops are always thrilling, but coming home is good too.

3 DAYS

Don't let a corporation take over the management of .org. Here's their proposal and more information.

Did I mention how much I am lovin' my iPod. 2.5G's loaded so far. Found that it will play while I'm driving Rhonda. Yea! Love playing the songs in alpha order. Get some great combinations.

One more item of conspicuous consumption: I bit the bullet and got my first cell phone. Feel safer out on the road now. I'm remote control challenged and this little phone looks like a small version of a one of my remotes. Fortunately, I have people around me that like to figure stuff like that out.

I registered my first book with BookCrossing, Fugitive Pieces, a much loved book. Will be releasing it into the wild next Monday while having dinner at the Space Needle in Seattle. (Yes, only THREE MORE DAYS!!) Here's a list of books in the wild in Seattle (also makes for a good list on where to get a cup of mocha).

Janis Ian's The Internet Debacle—An Alternative View.

Patti's photo an hour day. [Thanks, rivervision]

I feel like I'm on a rollercoaster, at the point where my car slowly climbs to the top just before the wonderful lunge down the other side. I hear the click, click, click, and it makes me just smile. I've learned from many past experiences this is often the best part of the journey, so I stay in it moment by moment. It's nice going to work when you're already on vacation.

*ABOUT THE PICTURES

Pictorial Potpourri
July 2002 (L to R)

Belated Father's Day at Sherah's: Sherah invited us over for breakfast and let me roam her backyard in search of light and flowers. Here's a lovely mimosa blossom and a view from behind this hibiscus.

Seattle in July: I ended up taking a lot of pictures from my hotel room's window, experimenting with the great light that bounced off the surrounding buildings. Here's a reflection of me and Miz Liz from the ice bucket lid. And here's more refelctions of our room against the window, night sky and downtown buildings.

The Space Needle: I did get to go to the Space Needle, and what a wonderful experience. Thanks to the revolving floor, I managed to do a panaramic shot of the Seattlescape while sitting at my table and in spite of a full house. Just as the sun was setting, the full moon was rising. A primo experience.

Seattle Toy Store: When we first checked in I noticed the FAO Schwarz store across the street. One day while taking a lunch break from the conference, I noticed children playing on the third floor outdoor playground. Before leaving Seattle, Miz Liz had to get her very own Moose.
