FINALLY FRIDAY

Que handy! Evolution of Rollovers. (Thanks, Jeffrey.)

While reading Low End Mac's Best of the Mac Web list, I ran across a Mac site I hadn't seen before, Railhead Deisgn.

At last, Car Talk Traffic Police. Tickets for those *special* moments. My favorite, of course, is the citation for talking on the cell phone. (Thanks, Twisty Pants.)

Dubya's Dayly Diary. Warning: heavy on the Texas accent.

Palm launches HTML browser.

Michael had a rough night in San Diego.

Mr. iBlog has a good example of CSS for NN4. (Thanks, Mr. Lemur.)

Lawrence is on a roll: Chained Melodies (look out for over-pop-up-ization that Salon has now adopted for it's free area). Here's Lawrence's two cents for the Scientific American*.

Digital Consumer takes up the fight against copyright plans in Congress*.

Piracy or Innovation?*. It's Hollywood vs. High Tech:

“Is it the responsibility of the world at large to protect an industry whose business model is facing a strategic challenge?" he said in an interview. "Or is it up to the entertainment industry to adapt to a new technical reality and a new set of consumers who want to take advantage of it?”

*So sorry to raid many of your links by listing here, Mr. Tomalak, but need to record the fight. Good job!

Last thoughts before leaving for my lovely file pile: Did I mention I love iTunes? Burned my first cd called Michelle's Singles. Love it. And the fun continues as I explore iPhoto's possibilities. Love this OS X thang. Reminds me of when I first upgraded from my Mac SE to my Power Mac. Same ooo'ing and ahhh'ing. What's truly weird is that I have a diehard Linux friend who, after walking through OS X and being able to do his Unix thang, is now going Mac.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BILLY

Today is my son's birthday. As always, it's a sad day for me. I haven't seen him since the day he was born 23 years ago (some details here). Knowing that I made the right decision at the time, doesn't ease the pain of missing him.

So, Billy, wherever you are, Happy Birthday. Your mama loves you very much.

EARLY BIRD

The Mouse That Ate the Public Domain. Want to help stop this crazy talk? Here's what you can do. Thanks to Mr. Lemur for instigating this piece of subversion. I wonder how a Disneyland boycott would go?

More subversion: Google Time Bomb.

Function, Style, and Accessibility.

“Eliminating barriers is the first step to improving accessibility.”

The link I had listed comes up 404, but here's the text. No privacy when using NN6 browser and Google search button:

“Navigator users can avoid having Netscape log their searches by directly accessing a third-party search engine by typing its address into the browser rather than using the Search button or Sidebar.”

The new season of Six Feet Under has started. Now need to have my Sopranos fix and my world will be damn-near complete. Sorpanos on Location.

Later Web-gators.

IT'S ALL GOOD

Yesterday, Miz Liz and I took Michele to lunch at Left at Albuquerque in Burlingame to celebrate Michele's birthday. We had a good waiter (i.e., brings the correct drinks on time, brings the correct food to the correct person, and has a sense of humor), and a good time. I signed Bruce's petition for a good cause; and we stopped at the Fountain for good milkshakes and brownie sundaes that blew any accumulated Weight Watchers points right out of the water.

[BTW the painting class winds up in the next couple of weeks. We have moved on from lemons to chrysanthemums and green apples.]

Good trail: CSS Rollovers > Pirated Sites > Trailer Park Cookin' (what?? no Mississippi Mud Cookies or Coca-Cola Cake or Chocolate Mayonaise Cake??) > CSS: The Choice of a New Generation

Need inspiration for a logo?

Waiting for some fresh inspiration: Permanent: Design Is Kinky.

Want to get away and not leave the keyboard? Here's Clive's trip to Rome.

If you feel left out, you can still attend SWSX vicariously through SWSX Blog. Here's Denise's list of a few Guide to Austin. Austin and Stevie Ray always synonymous to me. *sigh*

Lawrence's Notebook.

Remember the word yuppy?

Signal vs. Noise: The Weblog. While you're there, visit Design Not Found. Ooops, just noticed this, 37FakeBank. I'm there. My bank just did a site redesign and it sucks. Very slow, harder to get around. I should send them the 37FakeBank url.

GRACIAS A DIOS QUE ES VIERNES

Designing Web Sites for the Internet Explorer for Pocket PC. (Thanks, Nate.)

I know Enron-bashing is so yesterday, but I couldn't resist this:

Traditional Capitalism
You have two cows.
You sell one and buy a bull.
Your herd multiplies, and the economy grows.
You sell them and retire on the income.
Enron Venture Capitalism
You have two cows.
You sell three of them to your publicly listed company, using letters of credit opened by your brother-in-law at the bank, then execute a debt/equity swap with an associated general offer so that you get all four cows back, with a tax exemption for five cows. The milk rights of the six cows are transferred via an intermediary to a Cayman Island company secretly owned by the majority shareholder who sells the rights to all seven cows back to your listed company. The annual report says the company owns eight cows, with an option on one more. Sell one cow to buy a new president of the United States, leaving you with nine cows. No balance sheet provided with the release. The public buys your bull.

Honey's going to get me a new Palm for Mother's Day. Watching for prices to go down: 500 or 515? Here's the Palm comparison.

More portfolios from Designers Network.

'Interesting' corporate sites, a whole list from Magnetbox.

THE FUN CONTINUES

Yes, I took the day off to play even more catch-up. So, as the laundry spins, the gesso'd canvases dry, the soaps record, the lean entre microwaves, I surf the Web. I'll squeeze in the paying of bills and picking up of prescriptions tomorrow. Honey's on his own.

From A List Apart, Build a Cross-Platform Web Design Testing Station. Sounds interesting, but RealPC only goes up to Mac OS 9.0, And buy a copy of Windows 98??? Eeew.

Will have to stick with Virtual PC 4.0 for awhile if I can get it up and running. Virtual PC 5.0 for OS X doesn't sound ready for upgrade yet.

Mac OS X news and links.

More women. Also to inspire while redesigning the portfolio. Lots of Flash. Thanks, Carole.

Local company provides online books for visually impaired people.

“If not for Napster, Bookshare probably never would have been created.”
Thanks, Jessamyn.

The conversation continues: Craig gives some things to consider when choosing tables or css.

The Night Cabbie tells some good tales.

Justin's been a busy boy.

A FINE DAY

Microsoft gets ahead of itself. Nawww, can't be.

Great CSS tutorial showing the benefits. (Thanks, Jeffrey.)

I think I'll have to hold off on upgrading to Virtual PC 5.0 after reading Dan's experience.

From As the Apple Turns:

“Finally, Mac fanatics can drop all pretense of having real lives in favor of once again obsessing endlessly about where and when future Apple stores will spawn next! And just in time, too; now that Adobe has gone on the record as saying that Photoshop for Mac OS X will ship in April, some of us have really been looking for something else on which to fixate.”

I see there's a new Apple store at the Valley Fair Mall. Will have to visit, just can't bring the credit card along.

Music Fans Must Rebel Against Greedy Record Industry.

More Web women.

Mark records his update to OS X for MacEdition. While you're there, be sure and check out CodeBitch's Guide to CSS Support for Tables.
