SLEIGH BELLS RINGING

Don't hate me because I'm getting in the Christmas mood before Thanksgiving. Well, actually I was in the mood before Halloween. Must be all the Christmas card making going on.

Was re-reading my beloved Elements of Style and ran across this little quote that still applies:

"The whole duty of a writer is to please and satisfy himself, and the true writer always plays to an audience of one. Let him start sniffing the air, or glancing at the Trend Machine, and he is as good as dead, although he may make a nice living."

I see that those masters of the ancient art of genital origami have redesigned their website. Whoopee, they're coming to New York. Can San Francisco be not far behind? What are the top 15 signs your partner is moonlighting as a Penis Puppeteer? See the answers in my source code.

Found a nice little design weblog, The Study of Design.

The Wayback Machine. They're archiving the Web so I don't have to. Thanks to Webgraphics for pointing the way.

From Visualjournalism: Attack on USA. Regarding the information graphics done after the WTC, Gert from Denmark wants to know, "Where did the terror go?" Take his infographics tour and see how he dissects them.

SHARING

Jeff has a new area up, Dichotomy. Very interesting how he pairs up the experiences of witnesses and participants in the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks. Moving. Here are his guidelines for sharing your story.

Bill Moyers: Which America Will We Be Now. Thanks, Dan.

Nice companion piece to Bill Moyers article, from Dave Winer: You're Free to Think, and a few other rights.

At last, a way to keep my pixel sizes on my fonts and make my site accessible too.

Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary. I like this one because you can also hear how the word is pronounced.

From the ever-lovely CodeBitch: Leading from the front. Validate that code.

From J.D., an interview with the Sacramento Bee, Weblogs: Too Legit to Quit. Here are some more of J.D.'s articles.

Have been a reader of the Obscure Store, but just discovered Jim Romenesko's Media New.

Internet Liberation Theology. "In The Future of Ideas Lawrence Lessig explains why ham-handed efforts to increase copyright protection are a threat to freedom and prosperity."

Another book: Just ordered Jakob's latest Homepage Usability: 50 Websites Deconstructed. We'll see.

Building across from the flower market

MURAL
San Francisco, CA
While leaving the flower market, I saw this mural on the side of the building making a statement about the homeless. Sad to see people having nowhere to sleep but the sidewalk.

Six years on the Web!
