HEARTSICK
Like a lot of people, I'm heartsick over yesterday's tragedy. My prayers go out to those friends and families who might have lost loved ones.
Still coping with the shock of the huge loss of life. Don't understand how some can rejoice. Don't understand the mindset of such an extreme act of inhumanity.

A little more...
Dave's list of links includes the New York Daily News' picture gallery from yesterday,
and Poynter's front page collection with PDFs (due to high traffic, PDFs not available right now).

FORTY-NINER
Yesterday was my birthday. I love birthdays. They make me very happy. I smile all day long. Honey waits on me hand and foot and gets me absolutely anything I want. Friends write, send online greeting cards, and email me. Little grandsons leave voicemails saying, "Happy birthday, Grandma Shell". Mamas say, "I'm too young to have a daughter your age." Feeling well-loved, I'm still smiling today.
Not well-loved: pop-unders. Thanks to Joe, you can now take a stand against pop-under ads.
Alan's wondering the same thing I did in July: Whatever happened to the personal homepage? [Thanks Metafilter.]
U.S. no longer pursuing Microsoft break-up. Why be surprised at anything GeeDub comes up with when they can spend $250K on fireworks and don't invite the public.

The WebGuild is having a Job Fair this Wednesday evening.

One way for the visually impaired to use the bus. Here's NextBus's ADA website.
November 1st will be the six-year anniversary of my website. I had been working on a new addition to celebrate, a little something that I had been back-burnering since Joel's comments of last year. Had everything designed, forms coded, just had to slice and dice, and then...the infamous hard drives crash of August '01.
No, I'm not whining about my lost work. I've been told that this just gives me the opportunity to make it even better. Isn't it great when life gives you so much opportunity? Like the opportunity to file for 32 hours straight. Not going there. Really. I'm thankful. Money's money. But if I could just figure out what to do with my head while filing, I know I'd have this particular opportunity down.
Motivation is a wonderful thing.
