IT'S PERSONAL

Am trying to get this out the door before the rolling blackouts begin...

I'm nearing the end of my designated week of mourning over no Web Designer job and am feeling a lot more relaxed. The lemons/lemonade by-product of my layoff is that I've never had my site so up-to-date. Speaking of up-to-date:

It was link checkin' time in fem•mass yesterday. A lot of the fem•mass'rs now have blogs and I viewed quite a variety of styles. What I found was that a lot of the 'me' blogs were boring. A lot of the 'my site' blogs seemed too self-promotional. A lot of the 'my Web subject' blogs felt too impersonal. For me, the most interesting link combo seemed to be roughly: 25% me, 25% my site, 50% my Web subject/s.

Oooo, but look at these consensually voyeuristic trails I followed:

When you don't want those near and dear to read your online journal...

Although it's no longer kept up, here's Gerry Manacsa's Days in the Life covering 1996-1999.

Christine documents her trip to the Webby Awards. Pictures and everything.

Cat's photo log of her Disney Cruise this year. She also has a photo log of her trip to Silicon Valley last year. I find her Netscape Headquarters entry amusing.

Penis Envy. Heather decorates her dildos. A picture is worth a thousand...

Revisited Bushblog. He doesn't mention the power crisis and what he's NOT gonna do about it.

But here's what WE can do about it: Roll your own blackout - June 21st. We'll show 'em by god. Here's Dan's view on the energy crisis in CA.

For southpaws only. And Lefty tips.

File under News 2 Me: Microsoft has rights to your copyrighted text. Say what??

Maybe I've been watching too much HGTV, but this garden journal is nice.

The Woman Motorist. Here's their list of articles on Choosing A Good Auto Repair Shop.

If you have a little time to kill and are tired of commercial sites, here's The Domain List.

A Year to Remember. Brenda records her year with her mother who had Alzheimer's. Very touching.

Beth's IDblog: From there she linked to Usability.gov sponsored by the National Cancer Institute. They cover such topics as Usability Basics, and the muy bueno Web Design & Usability Guidelines. Beth also linked to Universal Usability in Practice which looks like good stuff.

...alright, the power's still on, the rest of the day is gravy. Happy trails, WebHeads.

THE MICHELLE IN ME

I've been the Supreme Tactical Commander of the Michelle Web Domination Campaign since 1996. It's a great job. So many Michelles, so little time.

Just finished updating HQ to HTML 4.01 and freshening up the graphics. This included weed-wacking the Michelles of the Web links, which is always an interesting process. Some of the entries are orignal (i.e., "best viewed in Netscape 2.0+") and some haven't been updated since 1997, but I like that slice of Michelle Web history. I also like adding my own two cents during some of the updates.

Two things are required to be listed:

  1. Your name, of course, has to be Michelle (or a Michelle who doesn't spell her name right.
  2. Your personal homepage has to have the name Michelle (or a nickname thereof) somewhere on it (Exception: Reina's Realm which I've had listed for a long time, but I know she's a Michelle).

Michelles without a homepage can tell their Michelle story here.

Not everyone can be a Michelle I realize. Here's a list of some of those poor unfortunates we must treat kindly. And do you need one more banner ad?

I happened to wander over to the Army recruiting site (nicely designed BTW), and lo and behold, there she is—Michelle Boatner, US Army Recruiter. We're just everywhere.

It's been a Michelle-uva day. I think I'll go park it in front of the window fan.

p.s. In between all the Michelles, I managed to squeeze in an update to the Holey Hunter...oh, and you know those pretty plum tree flowers that were blooming in January? Well, now they're ripening plums.
