THE EXPERIMENT CONTINUES
11:15A

Web Experiment No. 297 (www.waiter.com) update - I recieved an email from Una who said I could stop by and pick up my movie tickets; just have to coordinate a time. How nice they didn't hassle me about having to wait for them to come in the mail. Keep your fingers crossed. It looks like Web Experiment No. 257 could be a success.

Nice content blog by Joe Clark. An alternative to Jakob Nielsen? I see that he recommends Georgia or Verdana as the most readable type of choice. You can download from Microsoft.

FUNDAY SUNDAY
11:15A

Web Experiment No. 297 (www.waiter.com) Continued - Honey and I have ordered enough from waiter.com to have amassed a whopping 43906 points. We decided to redeem 35000 of them for 2 tickets to an AMC theater. When I went to redeem, I came up with a blank screen. I hit 'back' and hit 'redeem' again. Again a blank screen. When I went to check out my number of points, the 35000 was subtracted.

Honey called their 800 number to see what had happened. They do have us down for 2 AMC tickets which we'll get in 1-2 weeks which is odd amount of time considering waiter.com is just a few blocks away . . . I called them back to see if we could just drop by and pick up the tickets. Mary said she didn't have access to them but would leave a message for her manager in the morning.

INSPIRATION
7:26A

Thanks to Miz Liz, bikergrrl, for today's early morning inspiration:

Good design makes complicated information easy to understand.
    Designers are communicators not beautifiers.
Beauty emerges spontaneously when you make decisions on the basis of function.
Updated my Resource Guide last night. Also added a temporary animated gif for my new area, Cry, until the Flash version is finished. Bring a hanky.

Read spoonfed comments on Blogging: "This isn't community, this is a circle jerk." Lord, knows I would never want to jerk anybody's circle but my own, and so in that vein...

Found a JavaScript that will center a pop-up window in the viewer's screen.

Honey and I are in the middle of compiling and ISP/WebHosting comparison list for the Bay area. I ran across questions to ask your potential ISP.

I got my Palm IIIxe awhile back and am loving it. I saw a running debate on Palm vs Handspring in a mailing list. True the Handspring is cheaper, but it's hard to find in stock at stores, and true instant gratification junkie that I am, I had to have a PDA now and so purchased mine at the dreaded Fry's. (Can you believe they STILL try to check your bag on the way out?) The Palm replaces my calendar and notebook with Web notes that I used to carry and fits in my purse or hip pocket. I did download a Solitaire game that I can play while in meetings and still look connected. If you have a Mac, you have to buy extra parts (adapter for your Hot Sync Cradle). Here's Palm Boulevard, the independent resource.

Here's an article from itworld.com: Netscape 6, The New Web Standard. We'll see.

I've been watching the beginning of the Web dot com washout. Like driving by a bad accident. You can't help but look. Next Dot-coms to Die.

And then there's the demise of Boo.com. I think the quote from Mr. Narasin (CEO of Fashionmall.com who's acquiring said Boo parts) says it all: "They were probably ahead of their time, but such is life." Say la e-Web.

New search engine, ixquick. I did the ol' LMichelle test and it came up great.

Clinical Pharmacology. You have to register, but afterwards you can look up any medication and get the results in PDR format.

PICTURES
8:22A

I've spent the past week putting together my very first online portfolio and, oh mama, am I glad that's over with!

As a reward, I spent yesterday with Honey and a borrowed digital camera. (I'm putting together a group of pictures that I can use on future web collages.) We went to Overfelt Gardens (lots of pictures) and then over the hill to Half Moon Bay where we had clam chowder for lunch at Cameron's. Afterwards we went up a little further on Highway 1 and stopped by the beach (more pictures). When we got home, we caught the matinee of "Shanghai Noon". We finished the day doing a shot of mescal with a friend and then taking the puppies for a ride during sunset. If only time could stand still.

But this morning, back to the other world...

Yes, it's Corn Cam. Watch corn growing in Iowa. For the city kids who've never seen real corn growing.

Noon
For lunch today, I continue reading "Fugitive Pieces" by Anne Michaels. I read it slowly, haunted by the beauty of her writing: "When a man dies, his secrets bond like crystals, like frost on a window. His last breath obscures the glass." "...the selves that remain as we age, just as words remain on the page though darkness erases them." Brings tears to my eyes. God, life is good.
