HERE COMES THE SUN
6:27P
Yea! My domain name transfer went through, and Makes Grown Men Cry has successfully transitioned over to Behosting.com. As this particular project has been looming over me for way too long, I am giddy with relief. Next - DSL.
I have two projects for October. One is to write an article for the pda uberblog that I'm collaborating on with some guys. The other is to finish the webpage that I'll be putting up to celebrate my homepage's five years on the great Information Superhighway in November.
No, I have three projects for October. My third one is to install Timbuktu on my computer, and have my mom install a version on hers in Oklahoma. I think that smells like Web Experiment 302.
Now to finish my weekend

PAUSE REDUX
11:39P
A couple of days ago I gave up trying to find the best ISPs/Web Hosting companies and threw away my nice little Excel spreadsheet and the tidy FileMaker Pro database I had started.
I decided to tackle the other end of my search: finding the worst ISPs/Web Hosting. At least I'd know who to avoid. I asked people I knew, I asked people I didn't know. I scanned mailing list comments. I made a deadline of choosing by the end of this weekend.
This morning after finishing up my sales tax forms that were due in July, and doing my weekly budget, and checking my email, and drying my hair, and talking with the birds, it finally came down to cleaning up dog-poo in the backyard or looking for an ISP. (Honey's tied up as I traded cleaning the kitchen for lining up an ISP.)
I said screw it, I'm not wasting my whole precious weekend trying to figure out my new Web Host (or cleaning up dog-poo).
Moe, from the Webgrrls mailing list, had repeatedly recommended Behosting.com. His suggestions in the past have been clear, concise, and informative. I decided to go with Moe.
At Behosting.com site I signed up for an account and got an email mere minutes later welcoming me there. A few minutes after that I received another email from them saying everything was all set up and gave me the necessary info on how to do the mail, ftp, etc. I like their control panel idea. All this for $10 a month. Geez, I hope this is love.
After spending the afternoon uploading a copy of my site, I went to Network Solutions and changed my DNS stuff right there. Que handy. After a few emails back and forth (about ten minutes), Network Solutions completed the changes.
As midnight comes around, I wait for the light to come back on. Maybe tomorrow?
Good night,
Sleep tight,
Don't let the Bugs Bunnies bite.

PAUSE
7:12A
I seem to have maxed out my ISP disk space, and so will be holding off on any more updates on my site until I change ISPs. Will post the results of my ISP/WebHosting/DSL fact finding mission.
Later WebHead-Gators!

WHO LET THE DOGS OUT?
7:57A
WooHoo! Giants win the West!
Now that I've got that outta my system,
Web Exp 301, Buying a book in installments online continues. I received an email from the Stephen King mailing list, and Installment 2 is now online. They have '70% of the numbers' so far and need 75% for Stephen to turn loose of Installment 3. Since I'm no longer an Amazon customer, I elected to pay for installment on the honor system. Stephen King let me download the pdf of Installment 2 which I'll read sometime today. One thing I don't like, is that I forgot for awhile what The Plant was about. Had to refresh my memory. Sometimes I like to read a third of a book in one sitting, nice flow, so don't know how this will work in the long run.
Yea, A List Apart is now back up.
Inspiration or rip off: here's the discussion.
Apple Licenses Amazon's '1-click' patent. By doing so, Apple appears to be lending legitimacy to Amazon's patent claim. Too bad. I was hoping this Amazon boycott would gain momentum.
Censored high school journalists turn to the Web. Freedom of expression at work.
PalmTracker for all your Palm OS Software Resources.

I WANT MY ALA
7:43A
I'm in bad shape. Withdrawls you know. No A List Apart in my mailbox for days and days and days. I haven't been able to access the Web Standards Project either. And just why not? Read Jeffrey's pitiful plight. Enough to make this grown woman cry. For god's sake, someone lend that poor boy a hand.
I signed up for the Wise Women mailing list. "We're not chicks, babes, girls, or even grrls--we're women, and we're okay with being women". I understand the sentiment. In my 20's I insisted on being called a woman as being called a girl was a means of keeping me in my place.
But I've been tangled up in enforced womanhood (whether I realized it or not at the time) most of my life. I was rarely ever a girl. Helped me to survive though; I see that now. About a year ago, I fell under the influence of some mighty sassy girrlfriends. I saw what joy they took in letting their girrl out. I let mine out too. Guess what? I lived to tell about it.

TO SYNC OR NOT TO SYNC
4:56P
I think I'm gonna hold off on OS XI won't be able to sync up with my Palm. Steve, what the hey is goin on?
Search Engine Guide, another source for finding Stuff. And while I'm on the subject of search engines, here's Too deep for most of us, pointless search engine results.
Finally, I've found a sex blog of sorts, In Search of Sin. What fun! Loved the library scenario. Thanks, Faith, for pointing out this little gem.
After reading NUblog's Opening Up Accessibility last month, I've been meaning to see just how accessible is grownmencry.com. I know ALT tags are not enough; I also know I have Javascript, and mucho nested tables, and probably a few other things that make it difficult for vision/hearing impaired people to 'view' my pages.
So, I start my self-education
- The Royal National Institute for the Blind-UK, Hints for Designing Accessible Websites.
- W3C's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, and their checklist.
- I downloaded Bobby to check my whole site. And since I have a Mac, I also downloaded Apple's MRJ 2.2.2 Installer (Apples's implementation of Sun's Java Virtual Machine).
More tomorrow
Smashing Pumpkins to release final album in MP3 format, no CDs.
Amusing Flash from nosepilot.com.
And a little of what we're experiencing in the Bay Area, San Mateo and Dotcom backlash.
I plan on reading "One For the Money", the first in a popular series by Janet Evanovich. It was recommended by long-time email pal, Flatbush Escapee. The series is about an inept bounty hunter bounty hunter from New Jersey, Stephanie Plum and her problem love life. But I won't be getting it from amazon.com. Seems they're having their way with our info. I've emailed them asking them to remove my info from their computers. We'll see.
