In 1995, I join AOL as a lark and begin posting to rec.arts.tv.soaps.abc since I was a fan of "All My Children". I learn about chat rooms and email. I hear of the World Wide Web, but it seems confusing as to how to get there wherever 'there' is. When I am finally able to access the Web, it is hard to find information, but I start with Yahoo. >>

The dam breaks. My art and my words begin pouring into webpages: version 2 of MiJo - mijo the homepage, Heavy Petting: Bubba, version 3 of LMichelle - Just When You Thought It Was Safe, fem•mass, Michelles of the Web, and Soul Searching. I have a life changing experience when I receive the gift of hope. I really pour it on my website, feeling like this particular time of my life is coming to an end and I have to get everything said. I create version 5 of LMichelle, The Personal Homepage of LMichelle, and do a major revamping of Soul Searching and Credits. >>

I begin clerical temping for dollars until I can find a Web-related job. I learn the hard way how work and a personal homepage don't mix. After finding an HTML position, I make it a general policy to keep my url secret at work. I revise LMichelle and create version 6 of The Personal Homepage of LMichelle. I also do a rough front door for Makes Grown Men Cry. >>

I find a position as a Web Designer and have even less time to spend on my site. The email piles up. I can't even update except in small batches. But I do find the time to join Silicon Valley Webgrrls and the Webguild. I do a third version of Fresh Developments, and attempt something new with Webservations. A fire is lit and I do a hack and slash on my website. I set my 'personal' webpages free, cutting any link to them from the top level of grownmencry.com. I don't want to take them down permanently as some of the pages - Soul Searching and Black and Blue - are still out there doing some good judging by the kind email I receive. >>
